My sister and I wanted to do something special for my 94 year old aunt for her birthday and a balloon ride was on her bucket list. My girlfriend and I accompanied my aunt Polly and Charles our pilot took us on the most amazing flight ever. My sister went in the chase vehicle with the pilot's wife and another great balloon wrangler named Fred. They treated us like family! I got fully immersed as they had me help with all aspects from inflating the beautiful balloon in their own wonderful protected historic backyard and teaching me every aspect until it was time to load up the ladies and float away. We took about an hour flight where the peaceful views were only interrupted by the burst from the burners or the dogs on the ground announcing to the neighbors that a large object was floating overhead. It was absolutely majestic as we floated directed by the wind. We hung around 800 to 1000 feet and we could see the Winston-Salem skyline as well as the Charlotte skyline, you could see the Brushy Mountains and the low hanging fog along the Catawba River Basin. Deer in the fields below as well as hawks on the wing circling underneath. All the while our faithful and calm pilot explaining all the intricacies of ballooning or any other question we through at him and then it seemed once again he got us engaged. We started looking for where we might land, you see with a balloon, it's up to the wind where you go. We noticed in the distance, what looked like a field with white dots in it. Polly thought it could be a cemetery, I said no, the dots were not spaced right, I knew it was a hay field with rolled bails sitting in it, they looked like marshmallows. The pilot tells us this is our mark and to not lock your knees as landings can be a bit rough. Not this landing, we set down no harder than stepping off a ladder. I honestly don't no one aspect that could have possibly made our experience anymore grand. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY!!! - via
