They get you high in the most wholesome way possible! Our experience could not have been better. We were in Charleston celebrating our first wedding anniversary from 9/10 to 9/12, and parasailing was the perfect way to end the trip!
It was easy to book a reservation online for a Sunday at the Isle of Palms location, but I did it a couple of weeks in advance. We got to the dock about 45 minutes ahead of time and Ginger got us checked in with no problem. I would suggest following Tidal Wave’s advice to plan for traffic on your way in; it wasn’t bad when we went but I’m sure it’s awful during tourist season. We looked around in the little store/restaurant nearby as we waited for departure. It has public restrooms, which you want to use before going out because you’ll be out for a couple of hours and there are no restrooms on the boat. You can also sit at the dock and look out over the water while you wait to go out.
This is a fun activity for all ages, providing you’re in good health! Our group had men, women, and children of varying ages, from young child to a little past middle-aged. Trevor and Preston were entertaining, and upbeat, family friendly music made our ride on the Smile High enjoyable and relaxing. Parasailing isn’t hard even for first timers (as most of the people in the boat were). They explained the Do’s and Don’ts of parasailing clearly as Trevor helped us put on our gear, and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable.
Going up wasn’t scary at all. The line reeled out smoothly and, after a quick dunk (legs only, and it’s optional), we were soaring high above the ocean, with a breathtaking view of the coastline off to our left. We could see for miles in all directions, and it was so quiet! This was an incredible experience that I would repeat hundreds of times over. Being reeled in went was just as smooth as going out, and after another quick dunk (again, it’s optional, but IMO it’s more fun with the dunk), we touched down on deck. No bone-jarring thud; our feet touched the deck and then we were standing, as if we’d just gotten out of a swing. We spent the rest of time relaxing, looking at the beach residences on the distant shore, and enjoying the sunshine and the wonderful feeling of being on the water. Such a great time! When it was time to head back to the dock, we passed the jet skis on the way. It looked like they were having an absolute blast!
Trevor took pictures and a 47 second video during our flight, and they turned out well. We took our personal GoPro, and between Trevor’s pictures and video and our GoPro footage, we have a great memento to share with our friends and family.
So glad we made reservations for parasailing with Tidal Wave! We’ll make reservations again next visit to Charleston. - via
