Steve is a master at what he does. I was booking with a different company- but decided at the last minute to ask about the weight restriction that most companies had. They told us they could not accommodate us. Combined- my husband and i exceeded the weight limit by 20 pounds. I offered to pay extra- I offered to pay for 2 extra spots so we could ride alone- I reached out to several companies at this point and offered them all extra money. No one was able to accommodate us. This particular bioluminescent bay is the whole reason we decided to come to Vieques- so it was very important to us to get to experience this. I was reluctant to reach out to Parts Unseen because they were a lot more money than everyone else- even if I was willing to pay for 2 extra spots at other companies. I reached out and Steve quickly replied and was very happy to accommodate us. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for- we definitely got the best experience out there for the best bioluminescent bay in the world! We watched many other larger groups come and go in the bay- Steve took us around the whole bay. We had a private tour! He took us to the best and brightest spots. The other groups were in and out so fast and none of them got anywhere close to the really bright spots! Steve is so knowledgeable about everything in Vieques and the bioluminescent bay. He is also a veteran! His friend Miguel came out with us to help along the way- he is also a vet. We were out there on a very windy night- which made for a lot of hard work since we were going against the wind. And Steve had just had shoulder surgery and wanted to make sure we were getting the best experience possible. They were very helpful, patient and offered lots of encouragement. This was my very first kayaking experience. Getting into the kayak was -I'll admit it- questionable. We had to wade through some pretty gross, slimy and stinky mud to get into and out of the kayak- but in hindsight, it's a very small price to pay to see this magical wonder. The best way I can describe my experience is like a galaxy in the water. You know, in Star Wars, when ships launch into warp speed? Imgine that between your legs under your kayak as you move across the water. When the fish get scared and dart away they leave sparkling trails. Is really and truly magical. On the main island of Puerto Rico I met I guy who did a tour of one of the bays over there- I felt really bad because I was bragging about our indescribable experience and he was telling me about how terrible his experience was. They covered their kayaks with tarps on the bay and still saw nothing. Don't waste your time, money and energy on othet companies.
You really need to just put the extra effort in to go to Vieques and see the best bioluminescent bay in the world and put the extra investment into seeing it with the best tour guide! You will not be disappointed in touring the bio bay with Steve! Just do it! Like right now! - via
