The term 'life-changing' is something I've often cringed at and never felt really applied to any experience or sport I've participated in. However, being introduced to the simultaneously Uber-relaxing yet panic-inducing sport of freediving has made me finally succumb to using this term. I recently started my AIDA 2 freediving certification with Yoshua and Ousia Freediving Academy in the quiet village of Pemuteran in North-West Bali. At first I was somewhat hesitant to make the journey but found Pemuteran to be a wonderful change of pace from the relatively hectic south and a perfect location to come and complete a freediving course. Yoshua is a very kind and down to earth person who not only has a deep passion for freediving but is also clearly a passionate educator. His relaxed teaching style ensured I felt comfortable throughout the entire process and allowed me to really engage that elusive child-like excitement and curiosity that comes from discovering something completely new and fascinating. I felt that through the process of learning to freedive there were an abundance of lessons to be learned that have great crossover into many other aspects of life, and I think becoming a better freediver will naturally translate into becoming a better and more self-aware human being. Yoshua was a great guide throughout that process and offered valuable insights into the obstacles our minds may be unwittingly throwing in our path, and how the seemingly simple activity of holding one's breath and diving into a blue body of water can bring these to the fore. Learning to freedive with Yoshua not only served as an introduction to this weirdly addictive and mesmerising sport, but also offered a plethora of learning opportunities that can be used in improving other areas of life. If you approach your learning with Yoshua with an open and receptive attitude, I am sure you too will come away with some wisdom to apply to your life. (As a side note, he is also a skilled photographer and the images he captures are wonderful!) - via google
