My partner and I spent a week in port Douglas/Mossman recently and had a jam packed week as we wanted to see as much of the area as possible. The walk-about tour with Juan was without a doubt the best part of our week! An absolute legend who shared many wonderful stories of the Kuku Yalanji people and their knowledge of the land. From what fruits are edible to medicines that are found through the bush/rainforest, we also walked through the mangroves learning about the different species and their importance to the balance of life and protection of the coastline and once we were out of the mangroves we all got to have a try of the spear, we caught nothing so Juan had to help out so we didn’t go hungry catching us a mud crab and a shark to try. The tour was wrapped up with a swim in a fresh water creek to cool down and we all shared some more food while Juan shared more stories of culture and country. I’d obviously recommend a walk-about tour to anyone travelling to the area, something for everyone and we left well fed and full of knowledge giving us more to appreciate about the land than just its beauty. - via google
