I had an amazing experience with Aruba Kitesurfing School! Dominic was a awesome instructor with lots of patience, and a french accent that i couldn’t get enough of:)
I thought i’d have no problem staying upwind with my kite experience ( im a Colorado kiter used to horrible wind). I am a snowkiter and kite landboarder and ive traveled and kited SPI, Cabarete, Maui and Bahia Selenas (Costa Rica) where I rented a board, checked the footstraps, got and launch and was on my own riding upwind with no problem.
Riding offshore wind was a first for me, and i struggled trying to find the sweet spot. I was oversteering and and pulling the bar in way too much and Dom helped me correct it. He also explained how my redirecting was taking me downwind and he showed me how to brake and not lose ground. I accomplished it on the next try and was able to stay upwind. He also helped me with my body position and i was able to make it way up wind in a couple tacs. Then i was feeling really comfortable and started jumping; i was fired up and started hooting and hollering like a maniac!!!! No better feeling than to launch some air even if i only went up five feet and drifted maybe 20 feet or so.
I crashed my five line kite several times and having Dom with me was key. He impressed the heck out of me untangling my kite several times in the water, this dude rules!!!!
I enjoyed my time with him so much that i continued my lessons for two more days!!!
I got to meet a couple other instructors of theirs; Carlos and Oscar as well as the owner Lysander. These are super cool and personable dudes!!!!!
These guys here are amazing instructors and now i consider them my new friends!!!!!!
I saw a couple one star reviews here and had to read them. If you expect to have your 13 year old kids learn how to ride a board behind a kite on their first day out you are ignorant!!! This is a dangerous sport that requires lots of instruction!!! On the other hand, your 13 year old kids can fly a trainer kite learn how to control it, maybe body drag, and start their incredible journey to the best sport in the world!
Also, if you've been windsurfing and kiting for 40 years and haven't ridden offshore wind its going to feel different than onshore or sideshore wind. Take some lessons, swallow your pride and have the best time of your life! Get some pointers from experts and you’ll crush it like me;) The flat water here it soooooo fun!!
