Man what an experience!! Can't recommend this trek enough, my wife and I had such a great time from every detail of this adventure.
To be honest I wasn't going to book a tour guide at all...and just go up by ourselves, but man am I glad I went with Four Elements! They picked us up promptly from our hotel, got us outfitted with lights, walking sticks, warm coffee and a little history of the area, n off we went at 345AM up Mt Batur. It was just my wife and I with our guide the entire way, we barely saw anyone else until we reached the top. Proper shoes are required for this trek, do not wear soft soled or some kind of sandal, this is a decent uphill climb with loose gravel everywhere, very easy to slip even with walking sticks/poles
Approx. 1.5 hrs later, thru dense fog and a pretty zigzag trail, we were at the top! Still pitch black, our guide got us some hot chocolate and hot tea, and a small balinese breakfast, we got to watch the sunrise slowly over the horizon. Our guide was amazing with the photos and did a truly outstanding job. Once we had finished breakfast we got to walk the ridge and saw some other incredible views from the top with pictures along the way. Lastly, we started the decent, and at the bottom, we got to go thru an authentic farming village and see the fields of wild onion, tomatoes, peppers, etc.
We can't recommend four elements enough, we had such an unique experience we will always remember. Don't hesitate to go with them!! - via
After some clever Credit Card bonus offers & Marriott Bonvoy point transfers (ask me about this if interested) - we managed to book a 5 night stay at this resort (Aug' 22) that was somewhat affordable (for us plebs). And wow, what an stunning experience my wife and I had here!
Immediately after exiting the airplane, we were greeted by a St Regis ambassador who took us to a private lounge to relax before getting on a sea plane to fly to the resort (highly recommend taking sea plane, really cool experience!). They handled everything from getting our bags, getting sea plane tickets, keeping us updated about any changes, etc. etc. During the transit, they also handed us an iPad that had a pre-recorded video message from our personal butler, Jihad, who introduced himself, greeted us (by name) and personally welcomed us to the Maldives! That was seriously unique way to start our trip and we loved it.
Arriving at the resort was incredible, you get off the sea plane directly to the hotel arrival dock, where we met Jihad in person, and he whisked us away to a nearby table overlooking the water with 2 fresh coconuts waiting. At this point, my wife and I looked at each other and just knew....We were in for a great vacation!
Everything about this resort, and I mean truly everything, was 2nd to none. I don't know how else to describe the incredible hospitability, food, views, activities, and personal touch we experienced at this resort. I am not doing it justice to say this place was "excellent" it honestly was in another tier, literally anything we wanted to eat, go do, or asked for was handled with urgency and courtesy, For instance: one afternoon for some reason, we both though air popped popcorn sounded good. I have no idea why, but I really didn't think they would have popcorn on a small island in the middle of the Indian ocean, but a quick message to our butler and 45 mins later, we actually had a huge bowl or air popped popcorn delivered to our villa.....absolutely blown away.
All the staff were very friendly and personable, they really made our stay something we will not forget, remembering our names, what we liked to drink, even just greeting us as we walked by. We went during August and had fantastic weather, I think it did shower for a few hours 1 day during our trip but it was actually refreshing for some clouds, the sun is incredibly bright and strong (wear plenty of sunscreen or you WILL turn into a lobster). We stayed in a overwater villa and it is really everything it looks like in the pictures, you can snorkel right off the back of your balcony and there is tons of sea life everywhere, there are also boat charters you can do to take you further out for specific things, such as turtles or fishing. One activity I did was the "sunset fishing" tour and I would highly recommend it. They take you out on a very nice boat and show you a "Maldivian fishing technique" for approx. 2 hours. Any fish you catch (and is edible) you can keep and they will prepare for you in a variety of different ways (if you want). DO THIS, it was so awesome! I managed to catch 3 different fish so selected 3 different preparations, they were all superb but I would definitely recommend the sashimi style, it was amazing!
I could write a novel about this place and add a thousand photos, but to wrap this up, we had an very memorable experience staying here and if you can make it work, I can't recommend this resort enough. We can't wait to come back here as soon as we can! - via
