I highly recommend visiting this park early in the morning. We arrived at the entrance at 5:55 am, just before it opened at 6:00 am. The ticket office was open earlier, so we were able to get our tickets before the entrance opened. The drive to the parking lot was about 5-10 minutes in complete darkness on a small concrete road through the park.
When we arrived, we were the first visitors, which made us wonder if we were in the right place. However, we soon found the sign for the park near the start of the trail. The hike starts off easy but progressively gets more difficult. We wore Asics sneakers with proper soles, which is recommended for the trail.
The hike was a cool experience, especially since we had the trail completely to ourselves. We started in total darkness and reached the halfway point when there was some daylight. When we got to the top in under 45 minutes, we were lucky enough to have the whole viewing point to ourselves. It was a super experience.
If you have bad knees, I wouldn't recommend the hike because the way down is especially heavy on the knees. Bring a small towel for all the sweat you'll work up, and make sure to bring enough water to stay hydrated.
Overall, I highly recommend getting up early and trying to be the first visitors at this park. It's totally worth it! - via
