Over this last summer I decided to get certified, I live an hour out of Houston, and after searching many dive shops, this is my experience with Divers Paradise.
First, I chose DP for my Open Water Cert. based on the cost, and have gone on to complete my Advanced and Nitrox, and in all my searching, I found they had the best pricing for all the classes.
Second, my instructors, Dave Garden and Dave Romano, are fantastic. Ive watched them both deal with students who were struggling, and their patience and knowledge of teaching really shows. Additionally, they keep it light and fun, with the right amount of seriousness. They do whatever it takes, till you "get it", with no pressure.
For the shop itself, Rick Fast has helped sort out my purchase of used dive gear, and helped me get it rebuilt and safe to use. A friend "hooked me up" with a great deal, and I came to find out it was old, discontinued gear, from a manufacture no longer in business, but Rick had parts for it, and got me up and running fast. He continues to help me, sometimes daily, with my never ending stream of questions, and Ive come to trust him greatly, he's a wealth of knowledge, and very generous with his time.
The Dive Masters Ray Miessler and Martin Bryant, who are commercial divers, are full of gear knowledge, funny stories, and make up the balance of a really great team of guys who are committed to making the experience of learning to dive, relaxing and enjoyable.
