My wife and I spent three days diving here and for the most part had a great time. There’s definitely room for improvement in some areas however. We had David as our dive master for the first two days and he was great. When you combine him and Magnus it made for some perfect dives. There was another couple on board with us that wasn’t so fortunate. The girl was getting her PADI cert from Chris. I saw him get overly upset at her a few times and even say “You did it before! I don’t understand why you can’t just do it again!” As an instructor I think it’s imperative that your students are comfortable with you especially in the water. I don’t think yelling and being high strung are good qualities for this kind of teaching.
I also found paying to be more trouble than it should have been. On the last day we found out we could have used a card but before that we were told it was a 5% fee to use it. Apparently that’s not the case if you run the card as USD. Scubafish is also more expensive than most of the places on the island but I believe the value is there. It looks like most dive shops go to the same area and dives. Scubafish uses a large and small boat and we found the trip to be much more comfortable on the larger boat. The lunch served on board is great and something we looked forward to everyday.
When you’re on the smaller boat I found some things with our gear overlooked as well. My tank was not turned on twice and I had the wrong size wetsuit and mask. The small boat had no other options for wetsuits and masks. The mask was really tight on my nose and made it hard for me to just enjoy the dive. If my wife wasn’t with me I would have probably ended the dive after 20 minutes.
On the final day our Divemaster was Pen and she was great. She’s definitely by-the-book and a great pick if safety and a more guided dive is what you’re looking for.
The guys who take pictures do not share a database so if you’re doing a multi day package you’ll have to buy them daily. The pictures are a fair price but just make sure you budget for them accordingly. 1000thb for five 1500thb for 10 or 2500 for all the pics. We received our pictures from the last day on a Dropbox email which required downloading the app and signing up for Dropbox. - via
