Just spent 4 amazing weeks with Barefoot. It has been fantastic to learn about the consevation work and to participate. The knowledge I now have about the target species, how to recognize coral damage and so forth will benefit me hugely on my future diving trips.
The diving around Arborek is world class and staying for a longer time in one island really makes you feel as a part of the community.
Barefoot is NOT a 5-star resort accomodation is basic, there’s no running water or flushing toilets. No AC and electricity only parts of the day. But this is the reality for everyone living on Arborek and part of the experience.
One thing I don’t understand though, is why they allow people to join for 2 or 3 weeks? It takes 3 weeks to learn all the science, so people staying short term are really just there on a resort vacation.
We brought all our own dive gear, and I would recommend o do so, as the rental gear is shared between several volunteers, and some of it is very used.
Loved th experience, participating in the science and the amazing diving❤️ - via
