My wife and I dove with Thailand Divers for 2 days, one to Koh Racha Noi and one to Phi Phi Islands. Overall, we found them to be satisfactory and the trips went smoothly as described, although we encountered some bumps along the way.
The good: organizing the trip beforehand was smooth and easy - they were very responsive and we got everything done over WhatsApp efficiently. We got picked up at out hotel, went aboard the MV Mermaid, had great dives, and we were dropped back off at our hotel at the end of each day. Our dive group size was small, just the two of us on day 1 and 3 on day 2, and the dive gear all worked well and was set up on the boat for us. MV Mermaid was great with super helpful staff and good food. All of that was remarkably smooth and just as they advertised.
The bad: all of that said, we had some surprises throughout the experience. Our impression is that Thailand Divers is more of a logistics company that organizes all the pieces of the trip (car shuttle, boat space, gear rental from a third party, dive guide hire). The impression we had from the website was that the Mermaid is Thailand Diver’s boat, but the reality is that it’s a large dive boat (~45 people total) that many operators rent space on, and we felt a bit lost in the shuffle. My wife was given the wrong sized wet suit on both days, despite us asking that to be fixed after the first day. I was given the right sized fins on day 1 and then a pair too small on day 2. We got different BCDs between the 2 days and were unfamiliar with one of them, and so learning as we went was a bit tricky as it’s a mad rush to get in the water at each site. We found ourselves wishing we had been able to try out the gear on land beforehand to work all these kinks out.
In the end, we had some amazing dives, and are appreciative to Thailand Diver’s for making that happen. If you’re an experienced diver and feel confident in being self sufficient, and are looking for a way to get out there with minimal prep, this could be a good fit for you. For us, we’ll be looking for a more intimate experience next time we’re in Thailand. - via
My wife and I stayed at Sairee and completed our Open Water and Advanced classes, as well as a few days of fun diving, over 10 days on Koh Tao. We absolutely loved the entire experience and miss the place. Since the resort and dive shop are linked, here’s our thoughts on each:
Dive school: we picked Sairee for its excellent reputation of small and intimate class sizes, great facilities, and fantastic staff. The dive school exceeded all of our expectations. The class size was small and the pace of learning was excellent - we never felt rushed and there was always time for our endless questions. The standard for learning is high and no corners were cut - our instructor ensured we could complete each skill and always made time to do it again if we were still shaky on something. The dive boat was fantastic (small groups, only Sairee divers, wonderful crews) and the gear was all excellent. The best part of the Sairee learning is that they ensure you have the skills to dive safely and the confidence to assess the gear assigned to you by any outfit you may use down the road. Special thanks to Martin, our instructor for both classes, for his patience, excellent teaching, and generosity in his knowledge about diving and food options on the island. He helped us discover a love for scuba diving! Also thanks to Denja in the shop for providing flexibility in scheduling and great communication throughout the process. We will recommend Sairee to all our friends and miss our new Sairee friends already.
Resort: the first thing that comes to mind is the amazing staff at Sairee. Any issues we had were dealt with immediately and everyone was so nice and helpful. The rooms are comfortable, the AC is great, and the location is ideal for those diving with Sairee - you can roll out of bed and be in class. The restaurant is beachfront and we loved catching the sunset with a smoothie or Chang. Lots of good food options and good coffee; Sairee has it all. The only drawbacks are that the rooms are a little small and if you’re staying near the beach walking road, it’s pretty loud late into the night. But the price is great, especially with the diving package, and we were happy to put in earplugs at night.
Thanks to everyone at Sairee for the amazing 10 days in Koh Tao and for the highlight of our honeymoon. You all are amazing, we’ll be back! - via
