I booked a dive with Jupiter Dive center as a solo diver and I got paired up with another solo diver before our first dive. When we got in the water it was clear my buddy was underweighted so we went back to the boat and got her weights sorted out. At this point we had killed about 15 mins of a 45 min dive. We got back in the water and descended to 80ft. We were on the reef for 5 mins before my buddy drifted off and I turned to see if everything was okay. After struggling to figure out what was the problem I grabbed her gauge and saw that her air was dangerously low. We immediately went up and were able to do a safety stop before surfacing. We got back on the boat and sat there for another 25 mins before starting to collect other divers. I was not pleased that I missed the first dive but mostly I was not happy that we had been in such an unsafe situation and not one of the crew or staff was aware of it underwater/above water or said anything at all. I did the second dive which although there was bad visibility was still a good time. Overall I wasn’t very happy that I paid $200 for this experience. When we returned to the shop I decided to talk to the gentleman at the front desk and asked how they usually deal with these situations. He was pretty rude and just said “there’s nothing I can do, you paid for a seat on the boat. If you have an issue take it up with the owners”. The reality is that I didn’t just pay for a seat on a boat, I paid to go diving and I paid for a safe experience which should really be the top priority for a dive shop. The reality is that when we left the water a second time (25 mins early) my buddy was upset and no one cared to ask her or I what had happened. The reality is that the crew and staff at the shop could have done one of a million things to improve the experience and aftermath and they didn’t. Half of diving is the underwater experience and half is the interaction you have with the crew, staff and other divers. Given my experience today I wouldn’t recommend this dive shop. - via
