We went to Ticos for a family surf lesson, and ended up spending the beach days on the second half of our vacation there. The surf instructors are awesome, and the lessons are a great value. You start with dryland training, then split into groups to get out on the water. The focus is on fun and safety, and the staff are friendly, encouraging, and great at adapting their instruction to the ability of their students. It was our family highlight. If available, the owner takes photos, which are available for purchase when you're done (and it's fun just reviewing them with your group). Tico's also provides beach chairs and umbrellas for a reasonable daily cost. It's centrally located, so everything's a quick walk, and there is a convenience stores, food court with multiple vendors, and a craft beer bar right across the street to refuel (everything else is a five minute walk, really). The chairs are comfy, and we really liked parking there for the day, meeting all kinds of people, and not worrying about having to buy food/drink from the venue. There's an outdoor shower for rinsing after the dip, and rental prices for surfboards are inexpensive. It was also cool just to watch and listen to the staff during the day, and see them go out in the late aft for some of the bigger waves. Super friendly crew, and they go out of their way to make sure you're enjoying yourself. Highly recommended. - via google
