Our family spent three nights at Paradise Cove in November, following stays in Nadi and another Yasawa resort. While the accommodation, food, and beachside snorkeling surpassed our previous resort experiences, we found the overall ambiance at Paradise Cove somewhat underwhelming. Unlike our prior stay where the staff knew us by name and treated us like family, here, even after three days, we felt somewhat like intruders.
Although I wouldn't categorize the staff as rude, many appeared overworked and jaded. Meal times became a gamble, with frazzled staff occasionally forgetting or making mistakes with our orders. The limited dining options, restricted to multi-course meals at Black Rock and Donu during dinner, prolonged our dining experiences to over 90 minutes each night.
One notable concern was a boat anchor made of several long metal rods left on the beach near the dive shop. Its presence posed a serious tripping and safety hazard, especially in the dark. Despite reporting it to the office on the first night and being assured they would take care of it, no action was taken, raising concerns about potential accidents.
In summary, we appreciated our clean and comfortable garden villa, the fantastic beachside snorkeling, and the high-quality food. However, several aspects of our stay left room for improvement, particularly considering the price tag associated with Paradise Cove. - via
We went on a whale watching tour yesterday, and after going on similar tours across 3 continents, several oceans, and both US coasts, this was hands down the best tour we've been on. Part was just luck- both with the season and because our boat went out further from the marina than most of the small glass-bottom boats. The effect was that we were alone when a pair of whales decided to let us watch them breach and play in the same spot for nearly an hour. I have never been this close or seen the whales seem so at ease and happy. We also came back closer to shore to see another pair of whales swim peacefully right by the beach, and then a mother and calf, and a couple others. (Maybe 10 whales in total?) We specifically booked this tour because we wanted a guide with a scientific background and an emphasis on boating practices that prioritize the safety and welfare of the whales. Andrea was a fantastic guide, our captain did an expert job navigating the whales (which was to be expected after his amazingly tight and technical reverse exit from the marina at the start of our trip) and we were excited that images from our trip will be contributed to HappyWhale for further research and protection. I could not recommend this trip more highly! It was a core memory we'll take with us for years, and we felt really great about supporting this company. One side note that I think is important- this boat also had a bathroom, which is nice compared to some of the smaller boats, just in case someone needs to pee or feels ill. - via
