Diving was fine and great, but communication before the dive left much to be desired.
Good
- Friendly staff
- Proper gear
- Trips as described online (rough timing, hotel pick up, lunch included for 3 dive trips, etc)
- Had one dive guide for the 2 of us on the fun dive (3 dive trip)
- English accommodating, though it's easier if you know some Japanese too
- has freshwater on boat for a quick rinse after dives
- dive masters set up the gear for us, which was very nice
Not so good
- Communication prior to the trip was lacking. I had to email back to get confirmation about whether we were booked. I had to email again about hotel pick up details. The final details were communicated the night before the dive through a couple round trip emails (verses, for example, one communication that contained all the details such as pick up time and location and what to bring). We also changed from 2 dives to 3 dives during the initial booking, but there was never a confirmation of how many dives we were actually booked for. We were ok with either (since pricing is already clear on their website), so we found out on the day of the trip that we were booked for 3 dives.
- I had mentioned requesting vegetarian meals if we did get lunch. This topic was never mentioned again during our email exchanges. The lunches turned out to not be vegetarian. I had accepted this situation might happen, but it leaves much to be desired from the pre-trip communication.
- Not super English fluent so the dive briefing was short (we mostly tried to understand the Japanese dive briefing and guess the rest due to experience). The important aspects were covered (turn around time / air) but there wasn't much about the terrain or sea life for example.
- There were no drinks provided on the boat, though the pre-trip email did say to "bring drinks" (I was prepared, but also a bit surprised)
Your mileage may vary aspects
- Our dive guide was friendly and pointed out cool stuff in the ocean, but was also a much faster swimmer than us, which meant either falling a bit behind or not having the time to look at things that may be interesting for us
- They mix different tours/reservations together on one boat. So in the morning there were 2 other parties (a 3 dive group and a 2 dive group, I think). 1 party left during lunch. 2 other parties joined after lunch (1 snorkeling group, 1 open water certification group). This meant that after the 3rd dive, we waited for the OW certification group to finish their activities. No major complaints since it was a nice view and relaxing, and we could jump off the boat top for fun, but if you want to optimize your time more this is something to watch out for.
Overall I think the less English you use / rely on, the better the experience will be. The dives themselves were guided and fine, no major complaints. - via
