After years of thinking about it, I finally got my scuba certification. Argonaut, a scuba school, not a dive shop, is totally focused on the diving experience and does a great job with their sizable and friendly staff.
My instructor Ryland Bryant was amazing. He was 100% engaged with our little group, always offering praise, encouragement and guidance. His teaching style is clear and concise, walking you through every exercise step by step, gently correcting any errors and omissions, and taking the time to make sure each of us was comfortable with what we were learning.
Huge thanks also to Assistant Instructor Jon Bowen who helped me with some one-on-one on the second day of open water to get my weights and buoyancy dialed in.
Argonaut Founder Fred Doner is the first person I spoke with when researching where I wanted to get my cert. Fred patiently and thoroughly answered all my questions, and never tried to upsell me with course add-ons. He was also a great instructor in our classroom sessions, very knowledgeable, funny, and engaging.
Another reason I chose Argonaut is that they are an SDI school. There's lots of information on the web about the various dive agencies and how their certifications and training vary (and are in other ways pretty much the same).
I would definitely recommend Argonaut for dive instruction, and will be going back to them when it's time for my Advanced Open Water! - via
