We had a great time staying at Iguana Surf! It's right in Tamarindo, so there are lots of dining and shopping options nearby. It's also close to the beach, which made surf lessons and rentals easy. Kenny, our surf instructor, was great with the kids, giving them tips and getting them into position to catch waves.
We enjoyed breakfast every morning out on the balcony at Breakfast Grind, which is right at the hotel on the second floor where the rooms are. From there we could look out at the beach and the steady stream of traffic into town.
On that note, if you're looking for something more secluded, I wouldn't say Tamarindo is your best destination; but if you're looking to be in the heart of the action. it's a great town and I'd definitely recommend Iguana Surf. The vibe is definitely more for solo and young travelers, but as a family of four we felt right at home as well. The hotel is clean and well-maintained. Most importantly, just downstairs is a conveniently located market for getting Trits, Trits, and more Trits — the best ice cream sandwich in the world, in our family's opinion. - via
