We chose to stay at the Shangri La hotel for two nights given that it is one of the hotels with a dive center on site. Considering the good reviews, we were quiet disappointed by this dive center. Although we made a reservation more than a week before our arrival in Oman, we were assigned to a dive group with an OWD and thus had to go to a dive site which was really not worth a visit (bad visibility and not much too see). This was especially disappointing as the other two dive groups (both not full with only 3 divers each) were diving a good wrack. The option that we could split and join each group was not provided. Instead we had to go for a very boring and shallow dive - not worth the money. We asked the staff afterwards to explain why we were not assigned to an AOWD group since they went to a different dive site but they didn’t really care. Although one of us had his own equipment, we spent a total of OMR 128 (approx EUR 280) - so not worth it. Rental gear was ok but they only had a 5mm long suit or a shorty which seems a bit odd given that water temperature was 29 degrees. - via
