Since posting our story about our awful encounter with Brenda Muhr/Sanchez, travel agent for The Travel Connection and ScubaVentures, we have had several individuals (not a part of our wedding group) reach out to us saying the same thing happened to them. My goal is not to “bully” anyone or try to “ruin their life/reputation” my goal is to ensure that this does not happen to anyone else.
Not only did we find out Brenda had stolen our money as well as our guests one week before we were supposed to leave the country for our wedding, when we confronted Brenda about the issue she was rude, unprofessional, unapologetic and still offered no explanation as to where any of the money went. In fact, her exact words were “something came up & it’s none of your business.”
Brenda was able to book some of our guest on that Monday and then a few others on that Tuesday, however the money still did not come from Brenda. It came from Jay & Cindy Stanfield- previous owners of the company. After speaking with Cindy, she stated she is a “friend” of Brenda’s and was able to loan her the money for some of the trips but would not be able to help with the rest. On Wednesday, just 4 days before our guests were supposed to leave the country, Brenda did not show up to work. After calling the police we learned that she was at home in bed having an anxiety attack.
At this point, Brenda reported that we would be hearing from an attorney, but she has again failed to clarify where the money went that the group gave to her. We have contacted the Attorney General's Office, law enforcement and now the BBB in order to resolve the issue.
In sharing our story with others, we have learned that this is a pattern of behavior for Brenda specifically, but may be how this company chooses to operate; utilizing business funds to cover personal expenses and then being short or late to provide paid services.
Almost a month later and we are still dealing with this issue. Some of our guests chose to dispute the charges, as their vacations were not paid for. The credit card companies have contacted Brenda and Brenda has been reporting she booked their flights; therefore, their charges are not being disputed. Its unfortunate Brenda continues to be dishonest but apparently, this is her norm.
Again, I am hoping this does not continue to happen to others. Yes we were still able to get married and I am so very grateful for that and I am grateful to be “alive and healthy” however, this was no mistake and people need to be made aware of the shady business provided from Ms. Muhr & The Travel Connection. - via
