I had high hopes for my visit to this kite spot, especially given the warm and welcoming nature of the staff who truly are as nice and sweet as mentioned in previous reviews. However, the kite spot itself significantly fell short of my expectations for several reasons that future visitors should be aware of.
Firstly, the water quality is a major concern. It was disheartening to learn that a staggering 85% of liquid waste in Phuket is discharged untreated into the bay, resulting in very polluted water conditions. This issue was further compounded by the noticeable presence of plastic litter on the beach, which, alarmingly, no one seems inclined to address or clean up.
Another considerable drawback is that the bay is very shallow and the tidal range, which is about 3.5 meters, severely limits the time frame for kiting activities to just a few hours each day. For those interested in foiling, the window narrows even further. This significant restriction was something we hadn't fully anticipated and found quite disappointing.
Additionally, the wind conditions proved to be unreliable. Despite forecasts predicting 20 knots, the reality was consistently 5 knots less. To add to the challenge, there's a pronounced wind shadow in the southern corner of the bay.
In conclusion, while the kite school staff's friendliness and professionalism are commendable, the kite spot itself presents several challenges that detract from the overall experience. From environmental concerns to the natural limitations imposed by the tides and wind conditions, potential visitors should consider these factors carefully when planning their activities. - via
