Been using HOS for 3 years as my primary dive shop. I'm at 500+ dives. Idk I just love Kelp Forests.
Pros: Good hours & close enough to my house. Air & Nitrox fills. Repeat rentals are easy enough. They do the bare basics well.
Cons: Rarely answer the phone. They don't call when your maintenance is done. Orders 50/50 they'll get it wrong. Prices aren't great. High turnover of front staff so you don't get any long term relationships. Lot of short term employees are warm water divers that aren't passionate experts of our local reefs. If you ask for dive spots, they'll all say La Jolla (cool & reliable but unoriginal - There's so many other good beach diving Reefs when conditions permit)
Wish they rented surf boards too.
Summary, good enough, but could be better.
I avoid for anything but the basics.
I suspect low pay can't keep workers.
