My daughter and I went in to Divers Direct last week to get her a mask, fins, snorkel, and wetsuit (she's getting her open water cert, I'm so excited!). We were greeted immediately by Walt. There was other staff there as well who were all very friendly. Walt took us through the store and, this is important, showed my daughter the pluses and minuses of different gear without once trying to push her into the most expensive item. He explained that her gear preferences would probably change a bit as she got diving experience and that she just wanted good quality gear that would last. Understand, I have hundreds of dives in my log but I purposely wanted to not force my daughter into decisions that I would make, just reinforce principles and safety concerns. Walt was 100% on board with this strategy. My daughter always felt like she was the one driving this bus and she got what was comfortable for HER. Walt said it perfectly: you come into a store like this for wisdom from people who have tried many items and they know what works and doesn't work. That's something you won't really get from online shopping. I appreciated that. Anyway, kudos to Divers Direct for valuing the hands on shopping experience.
