I had always wanted to get my open water certification and when I knew I was going to be in Phuket for a long holiday I started investigating various dive schools in the Karon and Patong beach areas. I sent a few feeler emails out, and out of those I received, Sunrise Divers was by a country mile the most clear and professional response I received. They were prompt in answering all questions I had from the types of course available to a new diver to the cost and dates of each. I decided to go for the 3 Day SSI Open Water Certiciation course with 6 Dives in total, and easily paid a deposit to the centre. The centre provided me with all the virtual learnings for SSI that was required, which were easy to navigate for completion.
Prior to getting to the dive centre itself, I had to change my hotel location and Gilbert and the team were very accomodating in terms of pick-ups and drop-offs.
Day 1 of the course and I arrive at the centre to a warm reception, where I meet Gilbert and my instructor Mark for the course. We get kitted up and upon arrival of my fellow learners (2x Austrian lads) we head to the pool to undertake the skills section. Mark was brilliant at both explaining each aspect of the equipment, setting it up, why we use what where, and then brilliant in teaching the skills in the pool. So much so we finished the pool skills early so we had some spare time to practice before heading back.
Day 2 and 3 the driver picked me up promptly from my hotel in Patong and took me out to the boat on which we were to complete the required dives for the open water. The boat (the Freedom Dolphin) and its staff were brilliant, and provided water and food both for lunch but also hot snacks for the way back to shore. Mark again was clear and helpful with his teachings, and happy to say myself and the other learners passed our exam on Day 1 and then completed the 4 required dives by the morning of Day 2, so we had 2 fun dives to close out the trip.
Overall a brilliant experience with a well-oiled while still enjoyable and friendly operation that is Sunrise Divers. I will definitely be back! - via
