Ok where to start...We have been to several Sandles resorts and this was our second trip to Royal. No its not a 5 star. The plane traffic was bad enough then there was the construction noise at the beach. We rented a cabanna on the island right on top of the sewerage pipes and electrical piping...gross ! The construction sound was worse there since now you faced the mainland. $240 Rip off.
Our suite room was from the 70's just bad...Like a Motel 6 in fact. TV speaker was blown, decore horrible, toilet paper holder broken etc.
Food was fair at best and not much seafood. Booze selection was fair at best but they serve soft ice so it melts quick, they must use this for the blended drinks.. Our Butler was good so we tipped him very well. Resteraunts and portions were ok at best.
Entertainment was fair also but not one time did we hear any Reggae music or steel drum music AT ALL. Odd.
Gym was good of but somehow had no 30# or 35# dumbells and no cable machine...no biggie
Beach had cardboard lunch boxes in the water every day from the wind but no one would clean up.
I would not go there for a good 5 years till they renovate. We went to Montego resort the original which we have also been to in 1986 and 89 And should have gone again. Butchers resteraunt was great and the resort was beautiful. We were there for only 4 hours and regreted our decision on going to Royal
When I did complain the desk felt dismissive and should have comped some days or our cabanna at least but didn't. Save your money and look elsewhere. I was at the Rits Carlton a month earlier so we can afford to go anywhere and I'm not comparing the two but to call each one a 5 star...it just wasn't worth the money.
Just look at the room photos or a suite we paid over $5000 for. Does this look like 5 stars to you? Shame! I'm so upset as you can tell. I hardly ever do reviews but felt so dismissed I had to do one - via
