Once in a while you find a dive boat that just feels right, and Calypso was exactly one of those times.
From the first moment, everyone aboard made us feel very much at home and part of the family. You will very quickly discover that Peter the captain is an institution in his own right. Clearly having seen a great many things you wouldn't believe in his (possibly) centuries-long occupation as a naval deity on the high seas, Peter fixes everything and anything with his own brand of raconteur-like charm and supernatural prescience. Every day is a good day with Peter at the helm, and a good day is always a fun day under the ocean.
The wonderful divemasters that we flew with (Juan, Agatha, and Sasha in particular) were both highly competent professionals and extremely likeable personalities, always finding interesting things to look at underwater, and effortlessly fixing inevitable mid-dive challenges as they arose. Jacqueline in the office was likewise a pleasure to deal with, always managing to fit us in and telepathically delivering exactly the dive sites we wanted.
Pre-dive supervision was relatively hands-off since we are both experienced divers, but diving is an exercise in mutual trust and we always felt in good hands with solid, well-maintained equipment, and the absence of overbearing 'fuss' was a welcome relief. Conversely, we saw that newly-qualified divers on the boat were attended-to with care and diligence, with equipment checks and reassurance all the way.
We cannot recommend Calypso highly enough, and won't dive anywhere else when we return to L'Estartit in the future. Five stars across the board to the entire crew.
