A recent interaction with this company, the Dive Shop, has left me very disappointed. I booked a morning dive the Dive Shop three days prior to their intended excursion. I paid the full amount upfront, including gear rental. However, I became unwell with a chest and head infection and was unable to attend the dive, as safety would reason. I informed the company on the morning of the dive I was not well enough to proceed, based on my illness, and even offered a copy of my medical certificate. I was informed by the divemaster that everything was fine and should rest at home. I followed up a few days later to request a refund on the amount paid, as obviously cancellation was outside my control and the correct thing to do as a diver. However, the company is refusing to refund my money based on a presumptive policy that was not shared with me at any time prior to or after my booking, until a refund was requested. I am remiss because my booking and subsequent cancellation did not cause the dive to cancel, did not usurp a spot from another diver, and caused no wear or tear to equipment. If anything, one would anticipate that a dive company would, a) value divers that practice safe diving practices, and b) accept medical certificates. Keeping nearly $200 dollars for absolutely no service provided at no business detriment to them is tantamount to bad business practice. I am super bummed because I was hoping they would credit the amount and I could dive with them again in the future. That being said, I would not condone this dive shop, sadly, because of this experience. - via
