I was originally a little sticker shocked, but I have to say, you pay for what you get and the reason they are slightly pricier is that they provide a truly safe and wonderful experience.
For those who are only diving once in Palau and want to make the most of it, you need to go with fish and fins and buy the package to get your own guide. I did the refresher course because I hadn't been diving for years, and it was the best decision ever. The guide "OG" has the eyes of a hawk and we ended up seeing so many sharks, hammerheads, turtles, and even an eel.
OG was also extremely watchful of my safety, and would check if I was ok frequently. Getting your own personal guide also means that the guide isn't so occupied with watching the group, so he/she's got time to show you the sights and spot wildlife.
Lastly, it's apparent that fish and fins is where the long-term locals choose to dive, so go for the splurge if you are only here for a short while, because it will be money well spent!! - via
