Me and a friend got our OWD cert training here and it was a mixed experience. For one, the pricing is NOT transparent. It's not made clear that the check out dives are extra until the end of the lessons. Another issue was when I went to buy my gear, the owner, Bruce, was incredibly condescending and could not stop making comments and jokes about my weight.
I'm 6' 3", and 275 pounds, I am by no means a skinny person, but this was the first time in my life some one has tried to make me feel bad about myself. They laughed at me when they estimated I needed 28 lbs for my freshwater weights, but by the end of the lessons I was down to 16 lbs for weights, and this process of finding the correct weight after their erroneous first estimation made the lessons a bit more difficult.
But, the lessons themselves were incredible. Pablo and Chris made sure to take time and make sure everyone was comfortable with each exercise in the water, the classroom portions didn't feel rushed, and I really felt prepared for real ocean dives (I even got many compliments during my checkout dives for my neutral buoyancy)
Overall I would recommend them for instruction, but buy your equipment elsewhere to avoid the rude front of house staff. - via
