I recently spent 10 days in Faial on holiday. Five of the days were spent scuba diving with the Halliotis dive center. We saw some really interesting habitats and wildlife including rays, eels, trigger fish, octopuses, baracudas, spider crabs etc.
We also dived through the wreck Portao 16 which was great!
Unfortunately, it was a bit early in the season to travel to Princess Alice Bank to see the mass movement of the Mobula rays, so this trip was not run in the time we were there. We also attempted a shark dive, but the conditions were not ideal and only 1 or 2 sharks were fleetingly present. This was beyond the control of the dive crew however as they did their best to coax the sharks out.
I completed my advanced open water diver course with Marcelo, who was a patient, friendly, and competent instructor. The rest of the crew and dive staff were also lovely.
I would happily go with Halliotis dive centre again. - via
